Report: BHP Billiton May Offer $90 a Share for Anadarko Petroleum (BHP, APC)

According to a report in London’s Daily Mail, BHP Billiton Limited ( BHP ) could soon make a $90 per-share offer to buy fellow oil giant Anadarko Petroleum Corporation ( APC ). That offer would represent a 27% premium top APC’s Wednesday closing price of $70.73. The report didn’t specify any sources for the information, but said that BHP CEO Marius Kloppers is “desperate” to get a deal done. BHP has engaged in multiple unsuccessful takeover attempts this year, including a much-publicized failed bid for fertilizer maker Potash Corp ( POT ). BHP shares were mostly flat in premarket trading Thursday, while Anadarko shares soared 5%.
