Filed under: Earnings Reports , Market Matters After Citigroup ( C ) posted a profit of $2.2 billion for the quarter, as reported in the Wall Street Journal , CEO Vikram Pandit said the bank “should be in a position to return capital to shareholders in 2012 and expects to exceed international capital requirements known as Basel III.” This could be interpreted as saying that Cit will start paying a dividend again. Monday’s earnings result was a sharp turnaround from a year ago when net income was only $101 million. The stock rose 22 cents to $4.17 on Monday, but stalled in Tuesday morning’s trading.
