Multinational conglomerate General Electric Company ( GE ) on Friday said its fourth quarter profit jumped 50% from last year, beating analyst estimates and sending its shares higher in premarket trading. The Fairfield, CT-based company reported fourth quarter net income of $4.5 billion, or 42 cents per share, compared with $3 billion, or 28 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding one-time items, adjusted profit was 36 cents per share. Revenue rose 1% from last year to $41.38 billion. On average, Wall Street analysts expected a smaller profit of 32 cents per share, on lower revenue of $39.9 billion. GE shares rose 70 cents, or +3.8%, in premarket trading Friday. Multinational conglomerate General Electric Company ( GE ) said that its GE Capital unit has sold its Mexican consumer mortgage business to Grupo Financiero Santander Mexico. The sale includes a $2 billion consumer mortgage portfolio. Financial terms of the move haven’t yet been announced, but the deal is expected to close in the first half of 2011. Mark Begor, President and CEO of GE Capital, Restructuring Operations, said that “This sale is consistent with our strategy to exit non-strategic businesses that lack scale to help reduce GE Capital’s balance sheet while investing in core industrial and commercial finance platforms, including in Mexico.” General Electric shares were mostly flat in premarket trading Monday. General Electric to Buy Wellstream PLC for $1.3 Billion (GE)

Multinational conglomerate General Electric Company ( GE ) on Monday announced it will buy U.K.-based oil & gas producer Wellstream PLC. In pursuant to the deal, GE will pay Wellstream shareholders 780 pence per share in cash, as well as a special dividend of 6 pence in cash per Wellstream share. That total of 788 pence per share represents a 29% premium over Wellstream’s Friday closing price. Wellstream’s board of directors will reportedly unanimously approve the deal, which is expected to close in the first quarter of 2011.
