Top-Building Period for Euro

Top-Building Period for Euro

The two-week upmove in the euro/U.S. dollar from 1.2640 to 1.3440, or 6%, has the right look of a completed or nearly completed upmove, which we notice thrust above its channel resistance line earlier today, but has since pressed back beneath the line (1.3370). Although the euro could loop up again and retest this morning’s high at 1.3440, or even make new highs near 1.3500, the behavior around that upper channel line is warning me that the vast majority of the euro advance is behind us and that a top-building period is now in progress, which when complete should initiate a powerful directional reversal. Between 1.3400 and 1.3500 I will look to add to our initial euro short model portfolio position in the ProShares UltraShort Euro (EUO).

The 50-40-10 Investment Strategy Pays Off in Profits, Protection & Potential

Filed in Gold Investing, Gold Prices, inflation, silver by on June 2, 2010 0 Comments

What’s more important: Having an investment strategy that performs strongly when the overall market is up, or having an investment strategy that guards against downside risk when the overall market is trending down, while keeping you in the hunt for inflation-beating, long-term profits? Before you answer, consider the following: If you invested $1,000 in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index in 1950, it would have grown to $613,013 by December 2007. If you had tried to “time” the market and missed the 30 best months in that 57-year period, the value of your initial $1,000 investment would have risen to just $35,404 – a difference of $577,609. But if you tried to time the market and missed the 30 worst months in that time, your $1,000 would have grown to $9,509,094! That’s right – more than $9.5 million ! (Obviously the study is a little dated given recent events but the net effect isn’t all that different)

Daily Technical strategist: USDJPY

Filed in silver by on April 15, 2010 0 Comments

USDJPY: Corrective Price Action Dominates. USDJPY: Although USDJPY retains its short term uptrend initiated from the 84.80 level, corrective to consolidation price action continues to dominate. Nearer term, while it holds above the 92.56 level, its April 14’10, we should see a move higher towards the 93.74 level, its Jan 07’10 high. If that level eventually gives in, the pair should force further upside gains towards the 94.76 level, its 2010 high and then its Aug’09 high at 97.77. Beyond there will expose the 101.43 level, its April’09 high. However, in case of any failure at its current price levels, the 92.56 level should come in as the initial support with a turn below there allowing for a further downside towards the 92.13 level, its Feb 19’10 high where we expect a reversal of roles to occur and turn the pair back up again. Nevertheless, if that fails, further lower prices could develop towards its Mar 12’10 high at 91.07. Overall, USDJPY still retains its short-term uptrend triggered from the 84.80 level though faced with corrective to consolidation price action. Attached Images
