CBO: Health Bill Would Force Families to Buy Insurance Costing a Minimum of $12,000 Per Year

If Congress passes the Senate health-care plan, according to an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office, American families will be required by federal law to buy a federally approved health insurance plan that will cost a minimum of $12,000 per year–and, on average, will cost $15,000 per year — whether their employer or the government helps them with the premium or not. Beginning in 2014, the Senate plan would require all individuals to buy health insurance. Anyone who does not obtain insurance through an employer would be forced to buy it out of their own pocket. Families of four that… Original Article: Forum: News/Activism

USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19), U.S. 7th Fleet flagship, arrived in Chinhae Mar.12 to continue participating in combined forces Exercise Key Resolve/Foal Eagle 2010. Uranium sale ‘will weaken nuclear safeguards’

The Federal Government has paved the way for Australia to sell uranium to Russia. An agreement was signed in 2007 by the Howard government but it is yet to be ratified. In 2008 a Labor-dominated parliamentary inquiry recommended the deal be scrapped unless eight stringent conditions were met, including the resumption of inspections of Russian nuclear facilities by the global watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and that Russia separate its civilian and military nuclear programs. The Government has now decided the treaty contains “appropriate safeguards” for Australian uranium to be used in Russia's civil nuclear sector and says… Original Article: Forum: News/Activism

We Shall Never Surrender…We Shall Never Yield.

It’s been a long week. Actually, it’s been a long 14 months. For the last year, those of us who love this grand experiment called America have seen assault after assault waged against our liberties, our freedoms and our Constitution. And sometime in the next 72 hours, we will know whether those who wish to impose their vision of an America where freedoms and liberties give way to the all-knowing, all-controlling state from which our Founders freed us, will be able to strike a massive blow against the America we love. If there was ever any doubt that these forces… Original Article: Forum: News/Activism

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Don’t Vote, Don’t Debate

Democrats are ready to abandon a promise to allow lawmakers 72 hours to read and evaluate the heath-care bill before a vote. Democratic leaders are staunchly defending their possible use of a parliamentary maneuver to avoid a traditional vote on health care. Are they also getting ready to abandon a promise that lawmakers would have at least 72 hours to read and evaluate the language of the health care bill? House Democrats are moving ahead with a package of budget reconciliation changes to the Senate bill that would let members enact the Senate bill by reference. A Democratic staffer tells… Original Article: Forum: News/Activism

Why Wouldn’t Administration Let Biden Israel Incident Cool Down?

Why did President Obama choose to turn a gaffe into a crisis in U.S.-Israeli relations? And a gaffe it was: the announcement by a bureaucrat in the Interior Ministry of a housing expansion in a Jewish neighborhood in north Jerusalem. The timing could not have been worse: Vice President Joe Biden was visiting, Jerusalem is a touchy subject and you don't bring up touchy subjects that might embarrass an honored guest. But it was no more than a gaffe. It was certainly not a policy change, let alone a betrayal. The neighborhood is in Jerusalem, and the 2009 Netanyahu-Obama agreement… Original Article: Forum: News/Activism

The Hunt for Health Care Votes: Democrats to Watch

Today is the day the clock starts running. Once Democrats post their health bill online there will be seventy-two hours until House Democrats bring it up for a vote Sunday afternoon. The Democrats' whip team will be busy in that seventy-two hours furiously counting the votes, twisting arms and convincing some of their skeptical members to support the health care bill. Speaker Nancy Pelosi can only afford to lose thirty-seven Democrats if every Republican votes against the bill. CBS News will be measuring the whip team's progress. GOP plots Senate health roadblock

GOP plots Senate health roadblock By: Carrie Budoff Brown and Manu Raju March 18, 2010 04:39 AM EDT Democrats might like to think that health care reform is all but a done deal if it clears the House, but the Senate is where Republicans have been plotting for months to sentence it to a painful procedural death. Republican aides have been mining the Senate’s arcane parliamentary rules for an attack that aims at striking elements both broad and narrow from the bill, weakening the measure and ultimately defeating it. Their goal is to force changes that leave Senate Majority Leader… Original Article: Forum: News/Activism

The CBO Score, As Reported by Steny Hoyer ("AS REPORTED")

Thursday, March 18, 2010 The CBO Score, As Reported by Steny Hoyer House Budget Committee Ranking Republican Paul Ryan responds to an NRO query about the news this morning: “The Congressional Budget Office has confirmed that there is currently no official cost estimate. Yet House Democrats are touting to the press — and spinning for partisan gain — numbers that have not been released and are impossible to confirm. Rep. James Clyburn stated he was 'giddy' about these unsubstantiated numbers. This is the latest outrageous exploitation by the Majority — in this case abusing the confidentiality of the nonpartisan Congressional… Original Article: Forum: News/Activism
