The editor of BullMarket .com explains, “The company cut its fiscal Q3 guidance; but given the terrible weather, which impacted a number of airports across the U.S. and Europe, and higher fuel costs, it was largely expected. “The package delivery firm now expects to produce adjusted EPS of 70-90 cents, down from prior guidance of 95 cents to $1.15. Tiffany Boosts Outlook as Q3 Earnings Beat View (TIF)

Jewelry retailer Tiffany & Co. ( TIF ) on Wednesday said its third quarter profit surged 27% on higher sales, prompting the company to raise its full-year earnings guidance. The New York-based company reported third quarter net income of $55.1 million, or 43 cents per share, compared with $43.3 million, or 35 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding one-time charges, adjusted profit was 46 cents per share. Sales jumped 14% from last year to $681.7 million On average, Wall Street analysts expected a smaller profit of 37 cents per share, on lower sales of $650.3 million. Looking ahead, the company raised its full-year forecast to a range of $2.72 to $2.77 per share, compared with prior guidance of $2.60 to $2.65. Analysts currently expect $2.63 per share for the year. Tiffany shares rose $1.92, or +3.3%, in premarket trading Wednesday. The Bottom Line Shares of Tiffany & Co. ( TIF ) have a 1.72% dividend yield, based on last night’s closing stock price of $58.27. The stock has technical support in the $50-$52 price area. Lockheed Martin’s Q3 Profit Falls Short; Forecast Cut (LMT)

Defense contractor Lockheed Martin Corporation ( LMT ) on Tuesday said its third quarter profit fell 28% from last year, as defense budget cuts and project delays ate into its bottom line. The Bethesda, MD-based company reported third quarter net income of $571 million, or $1.57 per share, compared with $797 million, or $2.07 per share, in the year-ago period. Meanwhile, net sales rose 5.6% from last year to $11.38 billion. On average, Wall Street analysts expected a higher profit of $1.62 per share, on higher sales of $11.61 billion. Looking ahead, the company cut its full-year continuing operators forecast to a range of $6.75 to $6.95 a share, compared with prior guidance of $7.15 to $7.35 a share. For 2011, it expects sales growth in the single-digit percentage range. Lockheed Martin shares fell $1.98, or -2.8%, in premarket trading Tuesday.
