Dividend.com Weekend Edition – Hustle and Be Positive

Filed in dividend, Ford, Gold Investing, Gold Investment, Lear, o, upgrade by on January 30, 2011 1 Comment

It has been a crazy last 12 hours for us at Dividend.com as we have just upgraded to a brand new server that will be accommodating our ever-expanding audience. It is quite an amazing thing to see what we have been trying to accomplish when I step back and look at what our small and very hungry team has been able to achieve. You can say that the biggest risk you will ever take is launching a start-up. I guess it is par for the course for me, as I spent years making money as a trader – not an easy task for sure. As we grow, there will be some hiccups along the way technically. For example, we had to re-do all our premium articles from the last 3 days this morning. Nothing like coming back from church this morning to hear from the technical team that we needed to get all hands on deck to clear up some of the glitches from the server switchover. I try to make Sunday my least intense day work-wise and spend some quality time with the family, but when you own your own business/firm, you are never really off. It’s funny because I have worked my share of Sundays for many years, whether it was my early jobs in the pizzeria or deli, or helping my family run our food business in New York, which was open 7 days a week of course. My family knows the responsibility we have at Dividend.com and does a great job to support the efforts that need to be made to keep users happy. It is definitely a labor of love or none of us would put in the time that we do to keep everything running smooth and more importantly deliver solid RESULTS! The stringent research we do and data we interpret is going to be the difference in our future success as a firm. We know we have to be at our best at all times since there are other financial services/newsletters that we compete with. As we look to the week that was, the big story is unquestionably the chaos taking place in Egypt. The market sure felt the pain of the uncertainty on Friday with the indices seeing lots of red across the board. For dividend investors, sell-offs like this eventually turn into opportunities to buy quality names at better prices. The one thing to remember is not to over-think things and get paralyzed in fear. The only thing we can do for you here at Dividend.com is provide you the best names possible to invest in, but it is up to you to get your capital in your brokerage accounts…

Dividend.com Weekend Edition – “Ground and Pound Your Way to Investing Success”

Filed in dividend, Gold, Gold Bullion prices, o, recession, target, ubs by on January 23, 2011 0 Comments

Well it’s finally here and as I wait to watch two big NFL championship games this afternoon, I wanted to write a piece about what it means to be consistent and not slack off if you are going to build your own “championship” nest egg/portfolio or whatever the goals are you’d like to reach. When I was younger and still in school, I was fascinated by successful business people and what they did to build their fortunes. What fascinated me was how many were able to get to unimagined levels without college degrees or family fortunes. Many zeroed in on an area they were passionate about and worked to be the best at what their profession/industry was. They would not be denied! What many people fail to realize is that as an investor you can also achieve tremendous success without needing to worry about not being on the same level financially with Wall Street professionals. The idea of investing in quality dividend stocks is a simple one. You have the beauty of compound interest acting as the “wind at your back” propelling the value of your portfolio higher. There are several things you have to remember to keep doing, including funding your account every month so money can be ready …

Market Wrap-Up for Jan.14 (JPM, PNC, STT, GS, NEM, MEE, GE, more)

As I progress through my early 40′s, I like to think back to how I approached money in my earlier years. Being an entrepreneur, there is always a constant need to invest in your business and in yourself. That said, I still regret not being more proactive when it came to thinking about long-term wealth and financial security. The beauty of compound interest (which dividend stocks are great at providing when you re-invest those dividends) is something to marvel at when you start tabulating the numbers. You can use our Compounding Interest Calculator to measure your hypothetical rate of return, based on the number of years and amount of money you invest. Of course, getting married, having kids, and buying a home can put quite a dent in your best-laid plans. What was Mike Tyson’s famous line? I believe it was “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.” Now I’m not trying to liken a boxing match to your family life, but the fact remains that the expenses you incur in adulthood can take quite a toll on your financial goals. Some investors are now in a position of making up for lost time, scrambling to start or build their retirement nest egg at a later stage in their lives than they’d prefer. The way I see it, the solution to this problem is simple: put more money each month to work for you. Some things you learn with age, and when it comes to money, most of us don’t start to really appreciate the power it has in our lives until we look up at the scoreboard and realize we’ve lost some initial ground. The key word I used there is “initial”, because it is NEVER too late to come back and make a difference. My dad had a barber friend who bought his first house at 77 years old! That’s the way you have to look at life. Never stop trying to achieve your goals, no matter how late you are in the game. I don’t care if all you can afford is $25 a month to start investing. Pick an online broker and get an account open if you don’t have one already. If you’re employed, set up an IRA and fund it with the maximum contribution you can make every year. And if you have kids, get a Coverdell Education Savings Account started for each of them and fund those as well. If your employer matches your 401k contributions, then do that too! Do whatever you can to make it happen. In time, you’ll look back …
